Tell us more about you and your journey with Anthropologie.
Shelley (Store Manager)
I've been with Anthropologie for nearly 9 years. When I first started, I was at a time in my life where my daughters were heading off to college and I wanted to do something for myself. Anthropologie had always been a place to explore that provided a calm and inspired me. I decided to apply and had my fingers crossed that I would be hired because it was the only place I wanted to work! Fortunately, I was hired as a part-time sales associate at the Park Meadows location and quickly moved into a Manager-in-Training position. I was then promoted to an Apparel Department Manager at Park Meadows and things really took off from there. I have been a Department Manager in both Home and Apparel, an Acting Store Manager and Store Manager for the Western Region.
Paige (Visual Manager)
It is hard for me to put my journey with Anthropologie and what it has meant to me into few words. The last 7½ years with this family has truly made all the difference. It all began with Anthropologie Boulder taking a chance on a 21 year old college student and a girl with zero retail experience. As a seasonal hire, I began my love affair with a company that quickly stole my heart. It became a place where my creative spirit belonged. Upon graduating college, the comforts of being titled a student dissipated as I entered into a world of the unknown as an adult. Again, I found reassurance and purpose in my role at Anthropologie. Identifying a desire to leave my mark, my store leaders encouraged me to pursue a career in management as a Manager in Training where I learned the ins and outs of the company. This role quickly led to a shift to Apparel Supervisor and then eventually Visual Manager. With each role I was afforded an opportunity to not only further my career, but also further to my appreciation for the brand and culture I work in. I love what I do, I love where I work and I love who I work with. I am LUCKY!
What is your favorite aspect of Anthropologie?
Honestly there are so many things I love about working for Anthropologie. Every day brings a new challenge and a new adventure and I love that. Probably the biggest thing is the people I come in contact with every day, both the internal and the external customer. The team I work with really challenges me to be the best I can be. They inspire me with their creative nature, genuine spirit, collaboration, and ambition. Our customer really looks to us for that one-on-one connection. It means so much that I am trusted with personal knowledge of their daily life almost like a family member. To have the opportunity to make a difference each day with them is pretty incredible.
My favorite aspect of Anthropologie is the JOY it brings to my life and many others. The quality of people this company attracts and hires has afforded me opportunities to make life long friendships. The passion we all share for bringing light into peoples lives and the commitment to their experience has taught me many life lessons. The appreciation for hard work, dedication to creative collaboration and an open minded approach has challenged me in the most rewarding ways. I am most grateful for the investment this company has made in me and the pride they take in the development of their people. Anthropologie is my home away from home!
What is your favorite Anthropologie store?
This is a tough question! My first Anthropologie experience was in the downtown Seattle store and I think I spent over 3 hours exploring every nook and cranny of that store. I fell in love and never miss an opportunity to visit that store when I am in Seattle. With that being said, the Park Meadows and Cherry Creek stores are very near and dear to my heart for different reasons. Park Meadows because both the customer and the team are truly like family. Cherry Creek because it has so many layers which gives us the ability to really gob smack on a daily basis. The complexity of the store is challenging and I really love that.
While I have had the pleasure of visiting many Anthropologie stores across the states, it is very difficult for me to narrow it down to just one. What I love about the different locations is that they have all been unique from one another, but share the common thread of great people. Time and time again as I enter each new store I have a new found appreciation for the company's initiative of "taking the ordinary and making it extraordinary."
Each store takes pride in the responsibility of inspiring all who enter. I never leave a store without being humbled by the creative talent and entrepreneurial spirit of the teams.
Why did you choose to work at Anthropologie?
I think there were a few reasons why I was drawn to this company. The expectation of genuine and sincere service really aligned with my core values. The idea of making our customers day each and every day is so incredible and to have the autonomy to do so is wonderful. I was also fascinated by the creative nature of each store and how it plays upon the talents of the team and the personality of the customer to really make it unique. The celebration of the creative soul is pretty powerful.
The collaboration with peers, leaders, and partners is why I chose to work for Anthropologie. I have had the honor to work beside some wildly talented individuals. Their passion for creativity and pushing ideas to be bigger and better than the last has established an always evolving environment. Each day I go to work I look forward to it being different than the last and I couldn’t imagine it being any other way.
Wanderlust keeps us inspired… Do you have any recent favorite travels to share?
My new year’s resolution for the last two years has been to explore somewhere every month. I have been fortunate to have been pretty successful thus far but missed a few months so I decided to make it a resolution again this year. Some favorite places in the United States are Crested Butte, Seattle, Palm Springs, Boston and New York. Maui is a home away from home for me. Some other international favorites are Tahiti and Spain.
Having a pilot as a husband has inspired a passion in me for travel and exploring. While we still have many destinations on our bucket list, there have been several excursions, near and far, that fuel the desire to experience more. Our most memorable trip was two years ago to the islands of Bora Bora for our honeymoon. My husband was able to keep the location a secret until we arrived at the airport and I was overwhelmed with joy and excitement when I was given the news. To be surrounded by turquoise waters, the warmest people and endless activities was truly an experience we will never forget. To be able to fully immerse ourselves in a culture different than our own is what calls us to continue to explore.
