Tell us more about you and your journey with Anthropologie.
I just celebrated my 10 year Anthroversary with the company and what a journey it has been! I visited my first Anthropologie store in Houston in 2003. I was an instant brand fan - I visited the store 3 times in one day!
In 2006 I was shopping in the Dallas Northpark store and the manager asked me to fill out a customer profile sheet. On the way home that day I received a call to see if I would like to interview to work at the new store opening in Southlake. I was a stay-at-home mom and had a background as a Child Life Director at Children’s Hospitals and had never worked retail but I thought why not! I began work 2 weeks later and helped with the store opening. I was getting ready to send my daughter off to college and my son was busy with middle school activities, so I worked as a part-time Sales Associate. I became a Senior Customer Associate in 2009, a full-time Personal Stylist in 2013 and was promoted to Senior Personal Stylist in 2015.
What is your favorite aspect of Anthropologie?
The creativity of the brand and the team I work with inspire me every time I step through the doors. The company is known for growing their employees and promoting from within. To know that the entrepreneurial spirit is nurtured in your work environment and you have the opportunity to explore positions you can grow into is so inspiring to me. When I started with the company I never dreamed that I would have an opportunity to accomplish all that I have this past year as a Senior Personal Stylist. I have had amazing support and encouragement from my store team, District Managers and Regional Directors as well as Home Office.
What is your favorite Anthropologie store and why?
The Southlake Store of course! This store is home to me ... the team, the customer and the community I get to connect with. As a true brand fan, I do make sure I visit Anthropologie stores when I travel as each one has its own unique personality. It is such an adventure to go into a new store and explore - I love that no two stores are alike and that the store team collaborates to make it their own.
Why did you choose to work for Anthropologie?
We moved from Fort Worth to Southlake in 2006 and I thought working at Anthropologie would be a great way to meet new people. I never dreamed it would turn into a career for me and that I would develop such a passion for this brand.
Wanderlust keeps us inspired... Do you have any recent favorite travels to share?
Our children were both collegiate athletes - Riley played field hockey at University of North Carolina and Cade played football at Alabama. My husband and I traveled almost every weekend in the fall for 8 years and visited college campuses all over the country. What an adventure it was! We are now ready to travel to destinations with a beach instead of a stadium, so we are planning a trip to Bora Bora to celebrate our 30th anniversary next year!
Anything else you'd like to share?
Two years ago I began an Instagram page @fostersfavs. I wanted to show our customer how to wear our apparel in a way that would work for her lifestyle. I envisioned it to be a tool to share new product, events happening in the store, and outfit inspirations. It quickly became popular with our customer and she loved being inspired by a quick picture. I now have over 6,000 followers and have been featured on Anthro’s blog and website as well as their Instagram.
Last summer I was invited to Home Office to partner with the Home Office Styling team to share the success of Instagram with District Managers and District Visual Managers from around the country. This was an experience that I will always hold near to my heart - I connected with so many talented people who were so genuine and encouraging. Now all Anthropologie stores in the country have Instagram pages and it gives our customer a glimpse into how much fun we have working for this brand!
