Learn more about Kacie's journey from part-time Sales Associate at Anthropologie in Portland to Free People Social Media Assistant at our Home Office in Philly.
You started your career with URBN at Anthropologie. Why Anthro? What is your favorite part of your time there?
My obsession with Anthropologie began when we got one in my hometown just a short 5-minute drive from my house. I was about sixteen years old and have so many memories of my mom and I shopping there together! When I moved to Portland, OR I found out that my school was literally on the same block as the Anthropologie. So, one day I was on a break from class and decided to walk around the store, I struck up conversation with one of the girls working there and the next thing I knew I was coming in from an interview! It was my first real job and I couldn’t have been more excited. I was always so drawn to all URBN’s brands because I loved the dedication to the brands give to the lifestyle of their customer. It’s not just about the clothing, it’s about who she is and where she’s going. My favorite thing about my time at Anthro was all the incredible women I met, both customers and my co-workers. I constantly found myself inspired by the talented, creative, and strong women that the brand caters to!
We’d love to hear more about journey from the stores to your current role as FP Social Media Assistant. How did you make that happen?
After about a year at Anthroplogie, I transferred to Free People where I held various positions in my three years there. By far my favorite was being social media specialist where I ran our @FPPacificNW Instagram. All throughout my time in stores I knew I wanted to be at home office. The summer between my junior and senior year of school I took an internship at home office for Engagement Marketing. This was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. For anyone who thinks they may want to work at our Home Office, I recommend doing an internship! After that, I knew that this was exactly where I wanted to be so I went back to my last year of school and continued to work in stores and run our store Instagram. When I graduated, I worked in stores full-time for a few months until a Social Media internship opened. 10 days later, I packed up my life and moved across the country. I was the Social Media Intern for a month before the team hired me on as Social Media Assistant and the rest is history!
What is your favorite part of working at the Navy Yard (our Home Office in Philly)?
The community! There is always something going on whether it be an event or a contest. It’s never boring around here. I love all the people and all the dogs.
You can usually find me at my desk...
Using two computers and my phone simultaneously. The beauty of social media!
Does your desk mimic your personal style? How?
Yes! Organized chaos is the best way to describe it. I use my desk as a space for motivation. I love all the photos of my family, friends, and pets. I moved here from the west coast so a lot of my loved ones are really far away. It's nice to have a daily reminder of them!
A random item you can always find on/in my desk is...
Dried flowers. You'd be surprised how useful they can be.
Wanderlust keeps us inspired… Do you have any recent favorite travels to share?
I recently went to Turks & Caicos for the first time! The water there is so beautiful it’s unreal.
